Wishing on a Whistle

The Oscar Mayer Wiener Whistle was introduced in 1952, 16 years after the Wienermobile was born. The Wiener Whistle is a special item, only given to those who have seen the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile in person. The whistle is a keepsake to remember that special moment. Sometimes it is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Lucky for one guy in Jacksonville, NC., the Wienermobile was able to ketchup with him one more time.

While doing an event at a USO, we met Danny who could not wait to share his story with us. In 1964, Danny visited the Wienermobile with his mom and brother in Pennsylvania, in hopes of receiving the whistle he heard so much about. Before he reached the front of the line, there were no more whistles left. Danny was heart broken. So when Reese with Relish and I drove up to the Jacksonville USO, Danny was there waiting for us. After hearing his story, I was so honored to hand over the famous Oscar Mayer Wiener Whistle he had waited 47 years to receive. It was definitely a moment to relish.
