My First Stop
Sedalia, MO — The first stop upon leaving Madison after Hot Dog High was to pick up a man whose sister wrote in saying that it was always his dream to take a ride in the Wienermobile; this man was also very sick with cancer. So on our way out to California we made a stop in Sedalia, MO a town of about 20,000 to pick up this man and his family members for a ride!
Having only been a Hotdogger for a few days, I did not yet know the power of the Wienermobile, but when we pulled up to his house, he was speechless and in tears, and so was I. After taking lots of pictures, his grandkids and then he and his kids all got rides around town in the Wienermobile. We truly had a celebrity inside, as he seemed to know everyone we passed on the streets, from barbers and mechanics to ladies running with strollers. Our final stop was at the hospital, where his doctor and nurses all came out to give him hugs and take pictures for the Wienermobile. He thanked them for keeping him healthy, to be able to enjoy a day like today.
I was extremely lucky to have met such a wonderful sweet man and his family and also to have had the best first day on the job I could have ever imagined!
