Bristol Bound & Down, a Journey to ESPN
I’m a lifelong sports fan and always will be. Since athletics were never a strong suit of mine I once dreamed of being a broadcaster. This dream stemmed from watching many hours of sports coverage on a variety of networks, especially ESPN. I scratched my broadcasting itch while working at KCOU 88.1FM, my college radio station, but I decided that I wouldn’t pursue a career in TV or radio. Being a fan was enough.
So, Mary Kate and I were in central Connecticut doing some goodwill events and showing off the Wienermobile at a few grocery stores, so contacting Bristol, CT based ESPN for a tour was a given. The network was extremely accommodating and gave us a tour to relish of their campus. We parked BOLOGNA next to the ESPN Cafe and checked out the studios.
- We parked BOLOGNA on the patio next to the ESPN Cafeteria.
- Mary Kate and I enjoyed a few minutes sitting at the desk of ESPN2’s SportsNation. Later we saw the sets for Outside the Lines and NASCAR Now.
- Mary Kate marveled at all of the Emmys in ESPN’s awards case. Rumor has it that if melted down, the Emmy has more precious metals than any other entertainment award.
- This set is home to College Football Live and occasionally other shows. Production Assistants are working hard at computer stations in the back to edit the next great SportsCenter highlight.
- ESPN is very excited for their coverage of the 2010 World Cup.
- Employees play basketball in a very competitive league on this basketball court in the middle of the ESPN campus.

Where did the “dog kids love to bite” go? Has Oscar Mayer arrested the bologna hot dog driver? I cannot find the original OMayer dog and disgust doesn’t properly describe my altered opinion of OMayer.
