Life Inside the Wienermobile Vehicle

Stories from the road

Let it Snow!

Whenever I show someone the inside of the Wienermobile, I always point to the blue sky on the ceiling. I say, “there is never a rainy day in the Wienermobile”. However, now that winter is here, you may find some snowflakes in WEENR! In true holidog spirit, we added some snowflake lights to the blue sky, and now it looks like a winter bunderland.

Having the snowflake lights definitely brightens up the Wienermobile, and we even added some lights on the outside for a holiday parade in Altoona, AL.

Cooked Up Car Show

Schnitzel Itzel and I made a stop in Jonesboro, AR for the Country Mart Car Show.  The show featured many cars ranging from the old classics to new hot rods (and one hot dog, of course).  To determine the best car in the show, each vehicle has a cardboard box next to it, and the public could vote by placing a food item in each box.

To make this show franktastic, Country Mart was grilling hot dogs for all.  It looks like even this bug wanted a bite of an Oscar Mayer wiener!

Texas State Forest Festival

What goes with a jumbo frank at a forest festival?  Well, a giant Paul Bunyan will do!

The Texas State Forest Festival was a time to relish in Nacogdoches, TX.  A few of the popular activities include the swine races, baby derby, lumberjack show, and the 40th Annual Brookshire Brothers Southern Hushpuppy Championships.

Hotdogger Family Soaks Up Sun in South Padre

As a Hotdogger, we spend a full year traveling the hot dog highways of America.  So as one might guess, we really relish a visit from our friends and family.  My parents made the cross country trek from Wisconsin to visit me in South Padre Island, Texas.

As most do when they visit South Padre, we spent plenty of time on the beach.  At the end of the day we walked over to the bay side of the island and caught a glimpse of the beautiful bunset.

I Know a Weenie Man…

People love singing the various Oscar Mayer jingles when they see the Wienermobile, but these girls from Lafayette, Louisiana wanted to sing us a different one!

How Do You Decorate Your Dog?

Ketchup, mustard, and relish are probably the most common additions to a hot dog, but really, a hot dog is just a blank canvas for a condiment artist to decorate.  One artist may choose to add a few strokes of mayo, brush on some nacho cheese, and dabble with a few onions to create one of many franktastic masterpieces.  While making some stops in BARKansas, we met some girls who couldn’t help but share their favorite Oscar Mayer hot dog toppings!

Two Journeys Link Up

Hotdoggers aren’t the only lucky dogs driving across the country.  Other adventurous people are checking out the States via the scenic-kraut just like ourselves, and it’s always fun to share some stories.  While in San Antonio, Schnitzel Itzel and I linked up a group of travelers who were driving from New York City to Los Angeles.

This group of travelers is touring the country with Trek America, and seeing the Wienermobile was one of the stops on their two month journey. It was great meating them!

The Luck of the Relish

Well, the Wienermobile had the luck of the Relish on its side when it rolled its buns into Kansas City last week.  As we arrived at the hotel, Schnitzel Itzel and I were greeted by the current owners of Browne’s Irish Marketplace, the oldest Irish-owned business in North America.  In fact, Browne’s was first established in 1887, making it only 4 years younger than the 128-year-old Oscar Mayer brand!

While enjoying traditional sandwiches and potato salad at Browne’s, we were able to meat the 5th generation of the Browne family living in the United States, Rory and Ian.  The boys toured the Wienermobile, and we all took a picture with the famous Browne’s cookie, a tasty treat that the family has a tradition of including in pictures from all across the world.

Wienermobilia Found in Louisiana

Louisiana had a great crowd of Wienermobile visitors, and a select few brought some franktastic pieces of Wienermobilia.  As a Hotdogger, I see quite a collections of Wiener Whistles, but this was my first time seeing an original version of the Wienermobile piggy bank.

This piggy bank even had the classic “Little Oscar” pop out of the top of the vehicle.  The next piece of Wienermobilia drove up to our event and parked right next to the Wienermobile.  This remote control version of the Wienermobile was truly bun-of-a-kind!

Camp Good News

Buns of people ask us, “What is your job as a Hotdogger?” Of course, we get to drive the franktastic Wienermobile, but I like to add that we are delivering miles of smiles to people all across the country. Last week we made a special delivery of smiles to Camp Good News in Hitchcock, TX. Campers couldn’t put down their Wiener Whistles!

It’s easy to brighten up someone’s day with the Wienermobile, and this summer we have been encouraging others to do the same as a part of our Good Mood Mission.  This group of campers was actually on a benevolence retreat at Camp Good News, so every day they left camp to do community service in around Hitchcock, TX.  That’s dog gone awesome if you ask me!
