Life Inside the Wienermobile Vehicle

Stories from the road

Frankly Flat Stanley!

Peggy and John were the lucky recipients of this Flat Stanley from their grand daughter Katlin!  Flat Stanley is a class project that children across the country take part in.  They create their own Stanley, mail him to loved ones who take Stanley to different activities and exotic locations.  After a few weeks Stanley is mailed back to his owner along with pictures from all of his adventures!

Katlin mailed her Flat Stanley to Peggy and John so that they could take pictures of Stanley all around California! Little did they know that a simple shopping trip to their local grocery store would turn into Stanley’s most exciting stop thus far!

“I Wish I Were an Oscar Mayer Wienermobile…”

While traveling around the beautiful city of Santa Barbara, CA Top-Dog Tara and I stumbled across this young W-4 series Chevy chassis.  She wasn’t your typical W-4 series chassis…no, there was something special about her.  Maybe it was her fiberglass bun? Or could it have been her smiling front grill?  Then it hit us.  There was something very special about this young chassis.  She was on her way to becoming a world famous Oscar Mayer Wienermobile!

Here are a few snap shots we captured before our friends at Prototype Source were able to put the final touches on our newest Wienermobile-to-be.  Next time you see this W-4 series chassis she will be cruising the hot dog highways smiling all the way.  Keep an eye out for her!

“Hit One Out of the Ballpark for Hunger” with St. Mary’s Food Bank

St. Mary’s Food Bank in Phoenix, AZ is recognized as the world’s first food bank.  Last year alone they distributed 43.4 million pounds of food in the Phoenix area. This particular food bank was actually founded by a man Oscar Mayer knows too well, his name was John Van Hengel.  Mister Van Hengel also founded America’s Second Harvest, now known as Feeding America, which is a nationwide food bank organization to which Oscar Mayer donated $100,000 in 2008.

When we heard of St. Mary’s Food Bank we jumped at the chance to help! During our time at St. Mary’s we participated in “Hit One Out of the Ballpark for Hunger” which was a food drive where every donation was worth a chance to win tickets to Spring Training!  We had a wonderful time at St. Mary’s with all of the wonderful volunteers and staff.

Oscar Mayer is based out of Wisconsin, home to many Green Bay fans so we were excited to see that even Mister Van Hengel was a fan!

Jumbo Dog Jay and Double Dog Dianne!

Top Dog Tara and I were two lucky dogs when we met this enthusiastic couple from Phoenix, AZ!  In the past few weeks Jay and Dianne have become extended members of the hotdogger family.

Jay has been a fan of the Wienermobile since he can remember, so for his birthday his wife Dianne thought she would try to get him some fun Wienermobile memorabilia.  Little did she know that she would actually get a personal visit from a Wienermobile! We showed up at their home to take Jay for the ride of his life and he surprised us with ours!  Jay and Dianne are part of a Corvette club, so after their ride in the Wienermobile we got to ride in their Corvettes-they really haul buns!

Since that memorable ride we have had the opportunity to join Jay and Dianne at their home for dinner a couple of times.  During our last visit we have them their official hotdogger names: Jumbo Dog Jay and Double Dog Dianne!

Dogs and Golf!

Talk about two lucky dogs, Tara and I got to attend the LPGA tournament in Palm Springs!

We started the tournament off right by teaming up with The First Tee to create this terrific Oscar Mayer putting green! The First Tee is a youth golfing program in Coachella, CA that teaches life skills and lessons through the game of golf; our partnership was a natural fit!  The First Tee directors were able to use our Wienermobile plush toys to create this course.

Grace Pedersen-Wilson showed us how it was done! She weaved her way in and out of the Wienermobile toys and made it right to the hole-nicely done! Now only if Grace could teach Tara and I her skills…

Grace is on her way to the hole!

I WSH I WR

I, Hammi Sammi, would like to introduce everyone to the newest Wienermobile! Her name is I WSH I WR and she just celebrated her 2-month birthday.  Top-Dog Tara and I are the lucky Hotdoggers that get to drive the new 2009 Wienermobile.  I WSH I WR  has an updated bun box, a schnazzy mustard stain and a kickin’ stereo system! Enjoy I WSH I WR’s first few photos and keep an eye out for her on the west coast!

WNR MBLE at the Grand Canyon

Top Dog Tara and I had the honor of driving WNR MBLE from Madison, WI to Santa Barbara, CA.  Along the way we saw everything from a meteor site in Winslow, AZ to the Grand Canyon!  We arrived at the Grand Canyon right before sunset and were lucky enough to capture this cool picture.

It’s the Wienermobile!

I-55, Illinois.  Johnny Salami and I got to experience something rare for Hotdoggers.  We were enjoying our drive through chilly Illinois when low and behold we saw a Wienermobile in our side mirror!  We both exclaimed, “It’s a Wienermobile!”  Our friends All-Beef Allison and A-Dog Adam were driving to Wisconsin (as were we), so we had a Wienermobile caravan through IL.  It was a nice taste of what others must feel when they see the world-famous Wienermobile driving down the highway.

A Friendly Reminder

When Wienermobile lovers see the Wienermobile for the first time they scream with excitement!  Then thirty seconds later the need to share this moment with their family and friends sets in.  Luckily, Johnny Salami and I are fully equipped with “I Saw It” postcards for Wienermobile enthusiasts to mail to anyone they’d like.

One afternoon we had a young boy come up and ask what the postcards were for.  We kindly explained that if he wanted to fill it out we would mail it for free to anyone he wanted.  He looked skeptical.  We assured him again that we would send his postcard, he only had to fill it out.  The young man glanced up at his father and suddenly a wide grin spread across his face and he frivolously began to scribble on the card.

The photo below is a picture of this boy’s postcard.  Apparently he had just done quite well on his last spelling test, so his father had rewarded him with extra TV time.   The boy wrote “Watch TV at 4:00-6:00 pm Monday – Friday” on his postcard and addressed it to himself.  I guess he wanted to be sure he took full advantage of his reward!
