Life Inside the Wienermobile Vehicle

Hold Your Hotdogs!

Best in show

Best leash in show!

This little dog may not have made it to the Wiener Dog Races in Buda, TX with all of her four legged friends, but she sure was a winner at the MS Walk in Spokane, WA.  Racing along the course to help raise money for multiple sclerosis research, she was so speedy that she needed a leash to keep her with the rest of the walkers.  But this dog doesn’t mind donning her leash!  Handmade by her owner out of plastic hotdogs strung together, this dog has the most glamorous and distinctive leash that I’ve ever seen.   The other dogs on the course looked a little jealous and quite hungry for a bite!

New Wheels

Spokane, WA- Nothing compares to riding around in the Wienermobile. But if I had to choose a new ride, I would most certainly continue my love for oversized vehicles with this Radio Flyer wagon. Know what the best part is?  The handle is a slide!  (I gave it a few test runs while we visited.  It works great!)

WEENR Goes Hiking

The Hiking Hotdog

We took WEENR to Mt. Zion National Park in southern Utah.  Although he climbed all the hills to make it into the park, we had to leave him in the lot for our final ascent.

The Emerald Pools

The Emerald Pools

Clearly the steep trip was well worth it!  We wound around the red rocks and up to the top tier of the chain of Emerald Pools.  Here is a view from the Upper Pool, one of the most visited places in Zion Park.  Isn’t it breathtaking?

Look out your window!

Whoa! Wouldn't want to miss this!

Whoa! Wouldn't want to miss this!

Troutdale, OR- As All-Beef Allison and I cruised down I-5 in WEENR, we were rewarded by beautiful sights like the Columbia River Gorge and bountiful green mountains.  But wait!  A glimmering stream of water caught our attention.  Tumbling more than six hundred feet, it is a good thing we headed back to see Multnomah Falls, the second largest waterfall in North America.  You never know what will come into view in the windshield of your Wienermobile!

Rainbow!

A perfect rainbow out the window

Sometimes I forget that a rainy day can be so rewarding!  We were lucky enough to see this amazing sight out the window of WEENR!

The Great San Francisco Pillow Fight

Curious visitors at the Wienermobile always ask the Hotdoggers what the best part of their job is.  For me, discovering the quirky traditions of American cities is something I relish about my hotdog travels.  San Francisco has one ritual I will never forget.

Look at all those pillows!

Is that snow in San Fran?

Is that snow in San Fran?

Once the clock tower struck six, the Valentine’s Day fighting began. Thousands of people crammed into a usually-peaceful square in San Francisco and began attacking each other with fluffy bedthings. There was bomping and whomping, swatting and squishing, but these friendly fighters came bearing smiles and took turns giggling.  Soon a soft layer of feathery snow covered the ground.  After an hour of wielding my pillow, I had to retaliate to the sidelines. I had swallowed a few too many feathers.  The more experienced San Franciscans fought into the wee hours of the night.  And why not?  This was a dream come true.

Here Comes the … Shrimpmobile?

Can it swim?

Can it swim?

WEENR was lucky enough to make a guest appearance at the National Automobile Museum in Reno, Nevada.  The Wienermobile joined the top dogs of this amazing collection, including vehicles that have driven their way through history, movies, and American culture.   My favorite was this futuristic ride from 1937, which we dubbed the Shrimpmobile.

Which vehicle would you put your money on in a race? Don’t forget that the Wienermobile really hauls buns…

Amazing Keychain Collection

Where are the keys?

Where are the keys?

Portland, OR- Wow!  Although there are a lot of beauties on this keyring, my personal favorite is yellow, orange and hotdog shaped.  Now, who has the keys?

And the winner is…. the wiener!

I thought we were always the most famous Wienermobile in town, but this was not the case in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.  Our friend Dan surprised us with this very special Pinewood Derby entry, a miniature version of an old favorite.  After looking at the pictures of this tiny Wienermobile, it is not hard to believe that it won a first place prize as the best looking entry!  The winning wiener can really haul buns too; it came in second in the speed category!

Taos Tales, Old and New

The quiet Taos Pueblo is hidden in the foothills of the largest mountains in northern New Mexico.  These amazing adobe homes have been continuously inhabited for over 1,000 years, each room telling the stories of the Taos people that have lived between its walls.    And now for a new pueblo tale- the day the Wienermobile rolled in for a visit!
