Life Inside the Wienermobile Vehicle

Stories from the road

Deep in the Heart of Texas

In the South, Pepper Jackie Cheese, WEENR and I consider ourselves honorary cowboy and cowgirls of the Lone Star State. Craving adventure, we wrangled up some great journeys during our time here in Texas, from discovering what it means to “Keep Austin Weird” to diving belly-first into Houston, dubbed America’s “Dining Out Capital.” One of the trips we relished the most was to a ranch out in Hempstead, Texas.  Out in the countryside, we were surrounded by nothing but peace, quiet, and of course, some Americana. Here we are, just a couple of cheesy-weenies and our Lamborghweenie…deep in the heart of Texas.

Meat this Haute-Dog

Meat Ketchup Clemmie, a lady from Houston, Texas with franktastic fashion. On her visit to to the Wienermobile, she mustard up some juicy-dog couture in this cook-out season’s hottest colors: orange and yellow. From head-to-toe, this haute-dog has all the trimmings: a hat, purse, scarf, and shoes that match both her dress and the Wienermobile. To top it all off, she’s wearing the best accessory of all, smile. Franks for stopping by Clemmie!

Its Nuts by the Wienermobile

The Wienermobile relished the opportunity to meat up with the Planter’s Nutmobile in Houston. Beech you’ve never sausage a nutty thing.

Their vehicle added a bit of crunch to our sizzle.  Don’t be too pistachio if you haven’t seen the Nutmobile yet. Their new, green machine (complete with solar panels and wind turbines) is making a coast-to-coast roast as well.

The drivers gave us nutty Hotdoggers our own honorary top hats. All we need is a monocle! Cashew later!

WEENRful Day at the Farm

While in Hempstead, TX, we took WEENR out for a bunderful day at the farm. Our pitstop had all the quintessential condiments of a franktastic day.

1. Cowabunga! Cow you doing?  Because breakfast starts the day out right, we fed the adorable cows first. As you can see, there are buns  of them.

2. Taken for a ride in a big green tractor: I was able to take this cool ride for a spin down through the woods and out through the pasture.

3. What an egg-cellent day!

Owl See You Later

Can you spot the face in this place? The Frost Bank Tower in Austin, Texas is famous for its uncanny resemblance to an owl. When onlookers stare at the building from a corner angle, they see the bird-like similarity. Although the building has a modern design, the unusual owl characteristic keeps with city’s theme of “Keep Austin Weird.” The peculiar building is Austin’s third tallest skyscraper and stands at 515 feet high (or about 19 Wienermobile vehicles).

For those of you who love spotting faces in places as much as I do…here’s my absolute favorite face in a place:

Look at those adorable smiling grills!

Hotdoggers Relishing a Day Off

What happens when a group of Hotdoggers get together for a franktastic time exloring the Wienermobile vehicle’s home city of Madison, Wisconsin?

1. We check out the scenic- krauts.

2. In the land of Cheeseheads, we behave like cheesy weenies.

3. Since its chili-dogs outside, we grin and bear it.

4. Or we go ice-fishing!

5. We also discover the collection of historical Wienermobile vehicles (or Wienermobila) and find out that yes…they are still spreading smiles.

Cheesy Weenies at the Grill

For our last partner lunch date in the Pacific Northwest, Tera Louise with Cheese and I went to lunch at Portland, Oregon’s Grilled Cheese Grill. The restaurant is a converted old school bus, and its extensive menu of all kinds of savory and sweet cheesy sandwiches is a great compliment to the meaty Wienermobile. Driving the Wienermobile has sparked my interest in not only quirky vehicles, but also the rapidly expanding food truck industry. Who needs a fancy five star restaurant when you can munch on customized twists of a childhood favorite in such an unique setting? This hipster hang out was a perfect lunch for a couple of cheesy weenies to end their northwest tour.

Instead of blue skies like the Wienermobile, the Grilled Cheese Grill’s ceiling features a mural with an artistic and bizarre blend of mythical creatures and whimsical design. Vinyl seats are converted into dining booths and tables are decorated with vintage yearbook photos.  This is definitely a bus I’d want to take to school every day. Unfortunately, the bus stays put on Alberta street.

Franks for the great memories, Portland!!

Czech This Out

A few miles north of Waco, Texas, on the drive from Austin to Dallas, is a rest stop too cool not to Czech out. It’s called the Czech Stop. Not only can you pick up a refreshing beverage for the drive ahead but you can also try their legendary pastries stuffed with meat and hot, melt-in-your-mouth, cheese. Celebrity fans leave their mark on the wall. And guess what world-famous celebrity we spotted? Hi, Wienermobile!

Rachel, Meat Rachel

Meat Rachel, Seattle’s resident piggy bank. This little piggy went to the market…Pike Place Market! She’s been a visual cornerstone of the famous open-air market since 1986.  She weighs 750 pounds (or aboout 7,500 hot dogs). Have you ever sausage a thing? Each year, she brings in around $10,000 for the Pike Place Foundation, which supports local social services.  The meaty sum includes an eclectic variety of world currencies.
