Life Inside the Wienermobile Vehicle

Stories from the road

WNR MBLE “Pups” Up New Bedford

As Hotdoggers, we support hot dogs on a nation-wide basis. Oscar Mayer Wieners are America’s favorite hot dog and the Wienermobile fleet travels from coast to coast. During a Stop & Shop event in New Bedford, MA I met some women out supporting some local dogs and animals. They had a table filled with all things dog inspired to raise money for The Humane Society and Shelter Southcoast.

Some of the items were beanie dogs and homemade apple cinnamon doggie bones. My favorite was an item called Lolli-“pups,” a carob or yogurt pop on a rawhide chew stick. They were without chocolate and therefore, dog safe. It looks like The Humane Society is just as “dognamic” with puns as Hotdoggers.

Super Dog Sam and I easily agreed from the start that our own dogs are an extremely important part of our families at home. This “pups” us up even more for all the people we meet that introduce their dogs to us on the road. We asked the representatives to stand with our big dog for a picture showcasing ALL the animals they were helping out that day.

Williams Waterwall

Houston, TX is a frequent stop for Hotdoggers touring the South region.  No matter how many times we visit Houston, I never fail to find myself back at the Williams Waterwall to relax after days filled with buns and buns of fun.

Doesn’t this photo remind you of a senior portrait?  The Waterwall is found in Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park sitting among 118 Texas live oak trees.

Architects Philip Johnson and John Burgee designed the 64-foot Williams Waterwall.  Every 3 hours and 20 minutes, the Williams Waterwall pours 78,500 gallons of recycled water down the structure’s walls.  That amount of water could really wash down a lot of Oscar Mayer hot dogs!

The Wiener Family Meats the Wienermobile

“You will never guess how excited we are,” someone exclaimed to me while running toward the Wienermobile.  People of all ages relish the opportunity to see the Wienermobile, so it came as no surprise that this family was bubbling over with the excitement!  “We are the Wieners,” announced the young girl!  “This is just the perfect surprise for us that it is here!  We have to get a picture by the Wienermobile!”  Wiener family, meat the Wienermobile!

Relishing Some Toppings

The Wienermobile is a celebrity.  So it is very common to come back to the Wienermobile to see people taking pictures with the Wienermobile.  However, it is not everyday you come back to see a human bottle of ketchup and mustard taking pictures with the Wienermobile.

Peter, Timothy, and Super Dog Sam.

I arrived at the Wienermobile to get some supplies only to find Peter and Timothy in their ketchup and mustard costumes taking pictures with the Wienermobile.  They work at the Stony Brook Village Center which was across from our hotel in Stony Brook, Long Island.  Their boss had purchased the costumes for a carnival and as way to wave people into the shopping center.  Both Peter and Timothy had never seen the Wienermobile before so they relished the opportunity and had the right toppings for their first pictures with the Wienermobile.

Oscar Mayer Wiener Day

While hanging on a very Long Island with quite a “long dog, ” I met an innovative girl named Maya who shared a very fun idea with Super Dog Sam and I during our event at a local Stop and Shop.

She’ll tell you all about it here:

Rooting for the Home Team

The second baseball game of my life was at famous Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals. At the beginning of the summer I experienced my first baseball game ever and was thrilled to attend another one this season! Tera Louise with Cheese and I could feel the competitive charge the moment we pulled into the parking lot as the Cardinals were getting ready to take on the Pittsburgh Pirates. Being a Mizzou grad, I know a lot of Cardinals fans so it was great to see the excitement up close.

Special Wienermobile parking at Busch Stadium.

Cardinals fans lined up in front of the gate waiting for the game to begin!

The stadium was full of enthusiastic fans and it was easy to get caught up  in the action as everyone cheered on their team. Like the Wienermobile, the St. Louis Cardinals are full of tradition…they’ve been around since the 1880’s!

Look at all the dedicated fans sporting their red!

The most franktastic things about baseball are the atmosphere and the delicious stadium food. We had buns of fun at the game and I am definitely happy that I’ve started experiencing one of America’s favorite pastimes!

Mustard Days

FINALLY! An entire day dedicated to my favorite hot dog topping. I’m talking about Mustard Days in Middleton, Wisconsin. I never sausage a thing! Check out the world’s first and only all-mustard dispensing vending machine at the National Mustard Museum in Middleton, WI.

The museum featured mustard from all over the United States and the world! Luckily, we got to sample many of these unique and tasty toppings during the celebration. We even tried frozen mustard custard.

The highlight of my day was relishing an Oscar Mayer hot dog with jalepeño mustard. Joey topped his dog with just about every option on the table. If you haven’t already guessed – no other toppings are allowed at Mustard Days!

Wienerful Weekends

Most of the weekends Picklin’ Pat and I visited the Rio Grande Valley were not spent working alone.  We worked side-by-side with a team of Kraft Foods employees that provided visitors with free samples of Kraft Foods products. Check out our extensive setup!

Oscar Mayer hot dogs & Oscar Mayer Deli Fresh meat sandwiches were, of course, the most popular samples. It was a bunderful experience to work with a team that loves the Oscar Mayer brand as much as Picklin’ Pat and I do!

Franks for the memories!

Calling the Right Play

This past week Meep! Meep! Maria and I had the opportunity to help kick off the Huddle to Fight Hunger campaign with a giant tailgate on the corner of 34th street and Broadway at Herald square.

Kraft's Huddle to Fight Hunger tailgate!

The goal of the program is to give 20 million meals to Feeding America during this football season. WNR MBLE and Oscar Mayer huddled together with Kraft and many of its brands to help jump start the campaign.

M!M!M and I really relished our time in New York City at the event and got to meat up with celebrities Joe Montana at the QB toss, Erin Andrews in the media zone and the Neely’s in the grilling station. The celebrities also stopped by to check out the Wienermobile!  We really had a bunderful time on the field with the team today.

The tailgate will culminate at the end of the football season at the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl game in San Francisco.  To help donate meals and to join the huddle visit www.huddletofighthunger.com.  You can even win a trip to the bowl game!

Shopping Solutions for the Wienermobile

Have you ever stared at the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile and thought about the feasibility of actually buying a 7 ton hot dog? The vehicle measures 27 feet long–that’s approximeatly 60 hot dogs end to end, and far too big for an everyday shopping cart. Thankfully, we can all relax knowing there is a grocery chain in Wisconsin with a potential solution.

We got to hang out with this giant shopping cart at the Alto Fair and Parade in Alto, Wisconsin. The cart belongs to Festival Foods, a chain of thirteen stores throughout Wisconsin. I’ve always loved shopping carts–I once brought one home and hid it in the garage until my dad made me take it back–so I was thrilled to share the spotlight with this equally ridiculous vehicle. They even let me take it for a test drive!
