Life Inside the Wienermobile Vehicle

Stories from the road

Dogs to the Rescue

There are many kinds of dogs and some are just incredible franktastic. Some help us get rid of our hunger like Oscar Mayerhot dogs and other dogs help rescue people.  This rescue dog is a great example. His owner said that they belong to a rescue team and that both were called to go to Haiti after the earthquake but when they were about to leave they got called to another mission.  What a bunderful dog. Check his nice pose!

Two regions “Meat” up.

As Torey Toppings and I headed east towards Hickory, NC, I was thoroughly engrossed in our book on tape when she started yelling at the hop of her lungs. Through the haze and panic that quickly ensued, I was able to make out a word: “Wienermobile.” Sure enough, when I looked up, I spotted an Oscar Mayer Wienermobile making its way down I-40 in the opposite direction. Torey Toppings was right to freak out. We had NEVER seen another Wienermobile while randomly driving on the road. After gathering our composure, we immediately wracked our brains to think of which team it could be, all the while turning around so that we could stalk them to their next stop.

Turns out, the east team was headed to Gatlinburg, TN, for a BBQ Festival and just happened to be in the area as we were driving by. It was over lunch that we were able to “ketchup” and share the excitement of our past and future travels.

I’m also pretty sure the gas station didn’t know what to do with itself when two Wienermobile vehicles pulled into their parking lot.

A Wienermobile Derby

In 1953, Don Murphy organized the first pinewood derby in Manhattan Beach, CA, because his son was too young to participate in the traditional soap box derbies. Since then, thousands of children all over the country have been carving race cars out of blocks of pinewood in the hopes that their model would be faster than their neighbors’ when it cruised down the lane.

Collin, from Pittsboro, NC, wanted his pinewood derby car to stick out from the pack, so he carved a Wienermobile. Little did he know that a few days later, he would be able to catch a glimpse of the real thing. Torey Toppings and I were thrilled to be able to show off what inspired him to create what was sure to be a winning vehicle.

Wiener Stickers

On your way to work, school or the grocery store you might see one of the most popular stickers in America.  The I Saw It  Wienermobile stickers.

As I pulled into the gas station, I found one of our fans stopped to take a picture of theWienermobile and get some Wiener Whistles. I knew they would love to have an I Saw It sticker.  And yes, they did love it! Now the sticker is cruising the Hot dog highways of Los Angeles, CA.

A Speedy Breed

Even though the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile can really haul buns, we Hotdoggers choose to follow the speed limit on those Hot Dog Highways.  That’s why Lil’ Links Laura and I had a blast watching another speedy breed of hot dogs at the 13th Annual Wiener Dog Races!

Canine contestants of all shapes, sizes and colors congregated in Buda, Texas for the fun and festivities. Hundreds of our four-legged friends lined up and scurried to the finish line in hopes of being the prize-winning top dog.

Dachshunds Dashing!

In addition to participating in the heated races, a lot of these canines were dressed to the nines for the puppy parade!  Check out some of these crazy costumes!

The competition at the Buda Wiener Dog Races was pretty steep, so not every dog placed in the racing events. However, every single one of these dogs from Central Texas Dachshund Rescue was adopted by a happy, welcoming family.  So in that sense, everyone’s a wiener!

Every wiener dog should feel loved and wanted, so here’s an appropriate life lesson that should resonate with each and every one of us every day.

A valuable life lesson that we should always remember.

Wiener-Wheels

We took the Wienermobile to Richmond, Virginia to a walk to raise money for arthritis research. The DJ at the event had twenty-plus-inch rims on his Chevy Tahoe. It made me think… Shouldn’t we put some sweet rims on the Wienermobile?

Campfire Cookout at Crater Lake

Chris and I were so amazed by the beauty of Crater Lake after reading MmmK and A-Dog Alison’s blog that we had to make a visit of our own.

To make the experience extra fun we rented cabins near the lake to enjoy more of the great outdoors. Before we checked-in we stopped to get some delicious Oscar Mayer hot dogs to cook over the campfire. Turns out Select hot dogs work the best as they are much easier to slide onto a stick and roast over the flickering flames. Add a little ketchup and mustard and you’ve got a Franktastic meaty treat!

It’s All About Wieners.

It’s All About Wieners.  At one of our events, we paired up with the hot diggity wiener dog rescue.  We helped them bring people to their booth so people could learn about the many wiener dogs that needed a home. At every booth, there was a wiener dog as a mascot for the club.  Their members proudly wore wiener dog tennis shoes and socks. Take a look! What a bunderful time!
