Ok, so you probably have no idea who a Hotdogger is and what a Hotdogger does.

Well, it’s one of us, the guys and gals who drive the Wienermobile, criss-crossing the country, looking for bridges that are high enough to drive under so we don’t get stuck . We thought it was only fair that you get to see the inside of the Wienermobile – including the people driving it. So, that’s why we created this blog. We hope you enjoy reading our stories and experiencing what being a Hotdogger is all about. We appreciate every wave we receive on the road and are thrilled you’re reading and commenting here.

We’ll try to respond if we can… (after all, there’s a lot of ground to cover). – The Hotdoggers

Oh, I Wish I Were…

This lady in Las Vegas wished she were an Oscar Mayer Wiener. She was one of the employees of the store where we were doing our event.  During the whole event she wore her hot dog costume inside the store and when she went to visit the Wienermobile. She is a Frantastic fan!

And when she saw the Wienermobile parking sign, she loved and wanted to take the picture to capture the moment. Cheese Wienies!

Hot Dog Dance Party

At our event at the Air Force base in Keesler, MS A-dog Alison and and I had a great time giving out Wiener Whistles to some of the families stationed there, as well as teaching them some franktastic dance moves!

I call this one the salchi-cha- cha!

The Wienermobile proves itself

Most people are always commenting on the size of the Wienermobile: 27-feet long, 11-feet tall and 8-feet wide. It definitely dwarfs any normal vehicle. However, at the North Carolina Trucker Championships in Smithfield, NC, we found ourselves in one of the smallest vehicles there.

The championships are held every year where drivers can compete in eight different categories classified by vehicle. For example, you can compete in a step van or even a 5-axle sleeper. Lets put it this way, BIG trucks were present.

The way the competition works is that each driver goes through an obstacle course and is given a score. These obstacles include anything from backing up as closely as possible to a fence, to going around a tight curb.

Naturally, being registered with the Department of Transportation, Torey Toppings and I were taunted several times as to whether or not we would be able to navigate the course. We decided to rise up to the challenge and show these truckers that a Wienermobile shouldn’t be messed with, which is why Torey Toppings drove away with a perfect score!

Torey Toppings puts on her "concentrated" face to drive through the obstacle course.

Three more obstacles and we're through!

Am I Seeing Double?

WNR MBLE and his "mini me"

Cruisin’ Crystal and I thought we were seeing double when our new little friends Lainie and Eloise brought their very own Wienermobile to park next to WNR MBLE! They were so excited to see a sign at the store that the Wienermobile was coming that they made sure they stopped by to get a picture with their own pedal Wienermobile. What a great photo opp! Thanks Lainie and Eloise for bringing it on by!

Surfin’ USA

One of the most important items on my to-do list while traveling through the Southwest was to go surfing. I got to try the ultimate California pastime the other day thanks to my friend John, one-time Hotdogger and current power agent in Los Angeles.

The water was a little chili, but I mustard up the courage to take the plunge.

It was a morning of surfing wax, wetsuits, and wipe-outs, and I’m happy to add surfing to my list of new experiences while Hotdogging!

Hotdoggers and our forefathers

As you know, the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile is a charming iconic part of American history. The first vehicle was built in 1936, and the Wienermobile has been spreading miles of smiles across the country ever since.

Lil’ Links Laura and I decided to visit some other, esteemed remnants of American history in Houston, Texas. Behold this magnificent sculpture garden of giant President heads!  What a blast from the past!

The stoic countenances of our nation's forefathers.

There were also 36-foot-tall likenesses of my favorite band, The Beatles – also highly influential historical figures.
The Beatles!

36-foot Beatles - more than 3 times as tall as the Wienermobile!

We interFACED with a lot of great leaders at the Houston sculpture garden, but Lil’ Links Laura and I have a particular affinity to a certain past President because of his excellent Hotdogger name!

Meat AbraHAM LINKin!

Lil’ Links Laura and I even found this enormous lucky penny with Honest Abe’s profile on the front.  We use this as a decision making tool when we travel, a magic 8 ball of sorts.

Our enormous penny.

What would you do with the Wienermobile for the day and $5000?

That’s the question that’s on everyone’s minds these days, as us Hotdoggers cruise across the Hot Dog Highways.   Would you take it to a local charity? Throw a big cookout in your local park and invite the whole town? Visit a nursing home?

A Day To Surprise Amanda

A day to surprise Amanda with the Wienermobile. We first heard about Amanda’s story through a friend of her fathers, and were so touched by her strong will and courage that we had to make a special visit while in Illinois. Amanda is 13 years old and battling Pre-B Cell All Leukemia (Cancer in the blood) she was diagnosed in early February and has been fighting through it day in and day out. After meeting her, you could tell she was a fighter, such a positive young lady with a passion for life, family and her friends.

After setting up a time to stop by with her Dad (Tim) we decided it would be much more exciting if it were kept a surprise. As we arrived to their home, out comes her Dad (Tim), Amanda, and her Mom (Amy). She had no idea the Wienermobile was coming for a visit and was completely surprised. Her face just lit up from the sight of a 27 foot long hot dog and two girl co-pilots, it was definitely a memorable experience I will forever remember. We went for a ride around the neighborhood, picked up a couple of neighbors and one of her closest friends to relish the experience. On behalf of the Midwest Team we wanted to thank you for being so strong, and staying positive through all this. It was a pleasure meeting you, and hope we can “ketchup” again whenever we are in the area.
