Life Inside the Wienermobile Vehicle

Stories from the road

A Simply Dog-licious Treat

Most people come up to the Wienermobile and ask the oh-so-common question “Do you have hot dogs?” We hear it each and every day, and we love it, simply because we can say, “Yes!” and hand them a Wiener Whistle. It’s a form of a hotdog, right?

This time, it was our turn to ask for the food. Recently, in Portland, Oregon, A-Dog and I ventured over to visit our sister company at the Nabisco bakery. Here, they make delicious snacks that are common in all of our kitchens, including Ritz Crackers, Chips Ahoy, and of course, Oreos. Our one question after our tour, which we got since we are Kraft employees was, can we taste the fresh, right-off-the-line cookies? Boy, were they delicious.

Although we couldn’t bring our cameras through all of the food madness, we were able to don these stylish outfits during our walk-through.

We Saw Lights…We Came Running!

While crusing around Chicago’s suburbs we came across a field of lights. The beautiful christmas lights caught our eye so we had to go check it out. Turns out we were outside Chicago Botanical Garden’s Wonderland Express. After further exploration we discovered more than just lights decorating the trees. Inside their exhibit was a recreation of Chicago’s most notable landmarks made from organic materials. There was even snow falling from the ceiling which truly made it a winter wonderland!

Jumbo Beef Joey Finally Sees the Wienermobile in Person

“Jumbo Beef” Joey has been a long-time follower of @Wienermobile on Twitter, as well as an avid fan of hotdoggerblog.com. In Del Rey Beach, Florida, he was finally able to achieve his goal of seeing the Wienermobile in person!

Joey finally gets to meat and greet the Wienermobile!

Joey got to check out everything YUMMY has to offer – a blue-sky ceiling, six plush and plump seats, and a floor covered in mustard! He even “tweeted” from the Wienermobile, and as such was awarded a limited edition sticker:

Everything is Bigger in Texas/South Padre Island

The Wienermobile took a trip to South Padre Island, Texas.  After relaxing on the beach, taking  pictures with fans and spreading miles of smiles, the Wienermobilegot a tour of Bob’s World and saw everything from pirates to dinosaurs to Batman in the show rooms.

Many thanks for the tour to Bob’s World and its staff.

Gator Bait! M-I-Z…! O-H…! We Are…! Hook ‘Em! Jump Around! Bronc Pride! Rah for the U of M!

The title may be a little confusing, but weirdly enough, it makes sense. The cheers are from the different colleges each Hotdogger graduated from. MmmK and Doggone Dave went to Penn State. Guac’alupe, Atta-dog Adam and my partner, Dijon John, graduated from the University of Missouri. Victory Dog Victoria and C. Melton Cheddar are proud Wisconsin Badgers. A-Dog Alison hails from the University of Texas-Austin. Crusin’ Crystal has her roots at the University of Texas-Pan American. Lil Links Laura is an alumna of Ohio State. Rachel Relish is a Minnesota Gopher. And me? I’m a University of Florida Gator.

While we represent many different colleges spread out across the United States, we make a great family. Sure, some members of my family can razz others when it comes to sports (especially my poor, loveable Gators), but outside of the land of trophies, we make our own school. We’re Class 22. I’m proud to call them my friends, peers, and family. Nothing could break us up (except…maybe a big football or basketball game) and when it comes to needing someone to lean on, I know there are 11 people just waiting to have my back.

Here’s to Deuce-Deuce: May we forever love Wienermobile vehicles, Oscar Mayer and each other.

Wienermobile food drive

It’s always nice to help  That’s why the Wienermobile and the Boys and Girls Club from Pine Bluff, Arkansas worked together on a food drive.  We gave the kids from the Boys and Girls Club a ride then we went to neighborhoods with the Wienermobile to ask for caned goods. All the families that donated can goods got Wiener Whistles.

Alternate transportation

MmmK and I opted to take alternate transportation during our charming stay in San Francisco.  Though we love driving the Wienermobile, we truly wanted to relish our visit to the famous, ketchup-colored Golden Gate Bridge.  Therefore, we decided to bike across!

We started at Fisherman’s Wharf and ended up in Sausalito, roughly eight exhausting, bun-busting miles later.  It’s safe to say that we took an extremely scenic kraut.

Phase one.

Phase one. Before the bridge.

Phase 2.

Phase 2. On the bridge.

Phase 3.

Phase 3. After the bridge. Success!

Our liberating bike ride across the bridge was refreshing and rewarding, but I have to admit that I quite enjoyed hopping behind the wheel of the Wienermobile again.  After all, the Wienermobile gets us to our destinations quicker and doesn’t require us to wear dorky helmets.

Hot Doug’s and Superdawg

Hotdoggers are notorious for searching out local food across the country. Chicago is no exception. After hearing from numerous people that we should visit Hot Doug’s and Superdawg, we had to make a stop. Hot Doug’s is a small hot dog shop known for its interesting menu of hot dogs. I went for a rattlesnake sausage topped with cheese and a sweet sauce, while C. Melton Cheddar opted for the duck sausage. Guac’alupe decided on a more traditional Chicago style hot dog. We absolutely enjoyed the non-traditional approach to hot dogs. We also appreciated the amazing array of Wienermobile memorabilia Hot Doug’s had on display!

We also made a stop at Superdawg, a local drive-up hot dog restaurant. We went for the classic Superdawg topped with mustard, bright green relish, chopped onions, a pickle and hot peppers. No ketchup here, we’re in Chicago!

Location to ‘Ketchup’: Northeast by Midwest

What do you get when you mix four Hotdoggers and one Windy City? ‘Bun’bassadors Victory Dog Victoria, Rachel Relish, Dijon John, and I took the train into the city of Chicago while the Wienermobile vehicles OUR DOG and BOLOGNA spent some time reuniting and resting in our hotel parking lot. It’s such a treat (or should I say ‘meat’) to find that two teams will be doing events in the same area. After the twelve of us spent two weeks straight together at Hot Dog High (there was no ValeDOGtorian, we were all too bright!) we all share a close bond. We’re like ketchup and mustard, relish and sauerkraut, hot dogs and Oscar Mayer. Needless to say, we had a blast.

All abun! I mean, all aboard!

Key Largo? Baby Why Don’t We Go!

Lil’ Links Laura and I got to hike through the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo, Florida. This 50 year-old park offers kayak rentals, snorkeling lessons, and hikes through swamps. We were most interested in checking out the Mangrove groves!
