Life Inside the Wienermobile Vehicle

Stories from the road

Let’s go for a run!

What do jazz musicians and champion distance runners have in common? They both flock to Davenport, Iowa every year for the Bix 7 Memorial Run and Jazz Festival! The Bix7 is named after Davenport, IA native Bix Beiderbecke, a Jazz musician who was extremely popular in the 1920’s. The event is in its 35th year and attracts runners and musicians from all over the world. Torey Toppings and I greeted the field of over 15,000 at the finish line with Wiener Whistles.

We also attended the Jr. Bix run for children 12 and under. Oscar Mayer served lots of free hot dogs for the young runners and their families.

Squeaky Clean

The Hawthorne High School Cheerleading Squad will never forget this car wash! Not only were Cruisin’ Crystal and I able to help them raise money to go to camp, we provided them the experience of a lifetime (and saved ourselves some time too).

Two happy hotdoggers, a squeaky clean Wienermobile and a cheerful squad of washers.

Wienermobile Has a Whale of a Time!

The Southeast Team recently visited the famous Georgia Aquarium, the largest aquarium in the world! This educational and fascinating attraction in downtown Atlanta features 8 million gallons of water filled with aquatic animals, and is the only place in the world where you can see whale sharks indoors!

Can you spot the Ketchup and Mustard colored hotdoggers in this picture of the Georgia Aquarium?

Four of these gentle giants cruise around a tank nearly the size of a football field, and Lil’ Links Laura and Doggone Dave were such lucky dogs that we got invited to join them for a swim! In a half-hour dip we got to see dozens of different types of fish up close and dorsal-nal, including head-bangin’ hammerheads, massive manta rays, and groovy groupers.

Hotdogs and Stingrays and Sharks, Oh my!

But the coolest kids in school(s) were the Wienermobile-sized whale sharks, who arrived in the U.S. from Taiwan just a few years ago (hot off the krill!). We were amazed to be within arm’s-length of these behemoths, and grateful to the very friendly and enthusiastic aquarium staff for providing us with this amazing experience.

The Scent of Hotdogger lures them in!

The staff and volunteers were also very excited to see YUMMY. – at a place famous for water, it really made quite a splash!

My Wienermobile Has a First Name, it’s B-O-L-O-G-N-A

Some people take pictures of their children. Others take pictures of their pets. Me? I take pictures of my Wienermobile, BOLOGNA. She’s (yes, BOLOGNA is a she) very important to me. She’s more than just a vehicle, she’s a happiness spreader. That’s why I like to take her photo in as many places as possible.

Recently, while in St. Louis, I had a mission. To get BOLOGNA under the famous Gateway to the West, the Arch. Traffic was always on my tail right in front of the monument, so I knew I’d have to come up with another plan.

It was dinner time and the roads were empty as everyone was filling up (on hot dogs!) before the big baseball game in the evening. I took a side road, pulled over into a waiting lane, and voila! I got my picture.OGNA

Hot Dog! Holy Cow!

West Bend, WI – While cruising through the Midwest in the Wienermobile, one of my favorite things is spotting spotted cows.  Apparently, dairy cows are common creatures in Wisconsin, but I rarely ever encountered these fine animals in Texas where I was born and raised.  Therefore, my fascination with these black and white beasts has been steadfast and unwavering ever since I spotted my first spotted cow during Hot Dog High.

MmmK and I had a blast at the Washington County Fair in West Bend.  We ate some delicious fried foods and met some mighty friendly folks.

A view of the Washington County Fairgrounds. Don't those rides look like buns of fun?

But Hot Dog!  Imagine my excitement when I came across more than 20 prize-winning dairy cows in the same place?!

Some cows beefin' by eating some hay.

Me spending time with the most disarming, well-natured cows I've ever met. (which are also the only cows I've ever met).

I also met my first camel at the fair. I never sausage a thing!

Despite all the cool creatures I came across at the county fair, I will admit that the Wienermobile is still the top dog in my book.  That’s why a friendly clown made a balloon wiener dog to accompany me and the Wienermobile.  Hot diggity dog, what fun!

Quite frankly, no matter how cool cows and camels are, you can't top a triumverate of hot dogs.

Hot diggity dog. This top dog remains victorious over its competitors, just like Oscar Mayer's jumbo beef franks!

Downsizing

While the Wienermobile spent the day at the doctor’s office (Penske) getting its monthly check-up, Cruisin’ Crystal and I decided to try our hands at another larger-than-life vehicle: the Penske truck! Needless to say, we were happy to trade it back in for our buns of fun!

A Wienermobile Fit for a Wedding

Here comes the bun, all dressed in…

Wait, I mean bride! Here comes the bride! BOLOGNA made a guest appearance as the vehicle that took the lovely newlyweds from their wedding to their reception. They didn’t tell their family and friends, so as we pulled up and stopped, they stuck their heads out of the bun roof and started waving. Needless to say, the crowd went wild! Dijon John and I had to hightail it out of there pretty quickly because BOLOGNA was taking the attention off of the happy couple.

We were honored to be included in their special day and we’re really happy we didn’t get stuck in bunper to bunper traffic (new pun)!

Check out these great pictures:
